For Islam, my photo
I.D. ... leaves only my eyes to be seen..
For Islam, my photo-I.D.
leaves only my eyes to be seen
so men can't behold
my face as a whole
and think the wrong thoughts about me.
So those who demand I remove
my veil so my photo will prove
that no one but me
can use this I.D.
are bigoted, prejudiced rubes.
And so to respect my beliefs
the license for driving by me
should merely include
some alternate clues
to prove that the user is me.
So what if such alternate clues
require more resources be used
to fully reveal
the person concealed
when dots are connected and viewed?
The clues would be ample indeed
to know it is I they perceive--
It's easy to know
what hindsight would show--
just click on my picture to see.
..
Inspired by a June
28, 2002, report that a judge ruled in favor of a Muslim woman's claim that
requiring her to pose unveiled for a driver's-license photo violates her freedom
of religion. --Jim

Daily Update #20020627-01.©.2002.
Would God feel
revulsion at pious compulsion?.
For kids to skip "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance
confronts them with more than a mere inconvenience
'cause normal kids fear
disdain from their peers--
Our Forefathers' God wouldn't want such allegiance.
It's time that John Ashcroft repeat his revulsion*
at pious expressions induced by compulsion
and further profess
for children it's best
to not be coerced by a subtle compulsion.
When bailiffs ask God to save honorable courts
or members of Congress to praying resort
or Presidents say
"God bless USA,"
they're not asking kids to state views that comport.
..
I view the intent of the mid-1950's insertion of "under God" into the
Pledge of Allegiance as having been to formally recognize what had by then become a
universal perception in the wake of the Holocaust--i.e., that civilized society
imposes upon citizens an obligation to recognize a higher moral authority than
merely "following orders." I do not view it as an intent to
establish a theocracy; rather, I think they intended the term "God" as
a non-denominational, generic representation of a higher moral authority than
merely "following orders." Even though I do not believe the
insertion was intended to convey a theocratic basis for our government's
authority, and certainly do not think it's an "establishment" of
religion for bailiffs to say "God save this Honorable Court," for
Congress to open sessions with prayer or for Presidents to say "God bless
America" or "So help me, God" in the oath of office, I think it's
constitutionally unsound for government to prescribe an "under God"
oath of allegiance to be recited by children in public schools because doing so
has the effect of governmental interference with parental rights to instruct
their children on religious beliefs even when the child is nominally free to
skip those words or remain silent throughout the Pledge. I yield to no one
in mocking the inanities of the Left, but I have difficulty understanding how
those purporting to champion the concept of limited government find such
interference in the parent/child relationship to be constitutionally
proper. As I often prove myself, even brilliant people can reach
demonstrably flawed conclusions. --Jim
Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com...
.*. Last year I heard a brilliant speech on
religious freedom by John Ashcroft, who made not only a constitutionally proper
argument for freedom of religion but also articulated a compelling explanation
of why he believes compulsory expressions of religious beliefs offend the
free-will design of humans by the Creator. Given the fact that virtually
all politicians across the political spectrum are rushing to condemn
yesterday's ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, I don't realistically
expect Ashcroft to be any different despite the obvious logic in the speech he
gave last year championing the superiority of our concept of freedom of religion
over the medieval notions advocating "Islamic republics."

Is Martha investing
in prison-house nesting?.
It's doubtful that agents will soon be arresting
that woman who owns Martha Stewart Divesting
'cause wardens are waiting
for programs updating
instructions from Martha for prison-house nesting.
While feminists leaders accuse her of turning
the clock-back so Ozzie's for Harriet yearning,
a market correction
is seeking protection
for corp'rate brassieres her divestments are burning.
And meanwhile traditional husbands express
disdain for the role she exemplifies best:
The gals who comprise

who care more for nesting than those in the

A war without
ending or warfare we're winning?.
To folks who described to the pollsters1
our war against terrorist gophers
as war we ain't winning:
Hear Yogi on endings
that nothing "ain't over" until it is
"over." *
The ending is not yet beginning,
but yet the beginning is ending,**
and Yogi would say
we're having to play
a game that requires extra innings.
..
Ostensibly the pollsters predicated their questions on a foolish premise-- i.e.,
that it's realistic less than a year after 9-11 to determine whether we're
"winning" the war against terrorists spread anonymously throughout the
world. *The
wise philosopher, Yogi Berra, said, "It ain't over 'til it's
over." **This
is a paraphrase of Winston Churchill's famous statement after the Battle of
Britain that although it was not yet the "beginning of the end," it
was the "end of the beginning." See also the April 16, 2002,

Were whistlers
blowing or leakers crowing? ..
I favor the rule to prohibit dismissal
of government workers for blowing the whistle
on negligent hacks
or criminal acts
except when the leak makes security dwindle.
When self-serving leaks make security dwindle
the leaker's no hero but rather a crim'nal
who ought to be sent
to jail for a stint
to revel in sounds of the prison-yard whistle.
..
Inspired by Cheney's complaint to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees
today about intelligence-briefing leaks attributed to "congressional
sources." In light of the apparent nature of the leak (which I need
not, and choose not to, repeat here), whoever was the source need not have been
a rocket scientist to have known that leaking such information in its explicit
form was of virtually no value to the public but of potentially great value to
terrorists interested in knowing what we've learned about them and when and how
we learned it. --Jim

support for the groups that are sponsors.

It's relatively easy to find statements of some prominent Arab leaders
condemning the targeting of civilians by suicide bombers, but I challenge anyone
to find any instance of any prominent Arab leader or Muslim leader
in the Middle East willing to explicitly condemn Hammas, Islamic Jihad,
Hezbollah, the Al Aqsa Brigade, Al Fatah, or any other Palestinian organization
for supporting, lauding or claiming credit for, terrorist bombings. --Jim

Astute Palestinian
orations condemning their long occupation..
Whenever we hear Palestinians contend
their brutal and long occupation must end,
we ought to agree
that terrorist sprees
by them as their main occupation must end .
..
To contend that Israeli "occupation" of the West Bank is the
"cause" of Palestinian terrorism is to ignore what the Palestinians'
own polling organizations' survey reveals-- i.e., that a majority of
Palestinians favor terror as a tactic in their struggle to achieve their
strategic goal of eliminating the state of Israel. See my June
13, 2002, Update about the findings in that Palestinian-opinion
survey. In reality, it's the Palestinians' "occupation" as
terrorists that "causes" the need for their "occupation" by
some form of governmental authority capable of, and willing to, deter or
effectively punish terrorism. --Jim

"Deep Throat"

Since Woodward and Bernstein's redoubt
is claiming Deep Throat won't come out,
a better- known name
in blabbermouth games
instead of "Deep Throat," is "Deep Mouth":
"Deep Mouth" is the "Mouth of the
South,"
who thinks that his head's in the clouds,
but statements by Ted
reveal that his head
is not on his shoulders but much farther south.
Admired when he innovates wares

pronouncements by Turner

Turner's latest pronouncement equating Israeli tactics with terrorist bombings

In questioning
agents of warfare by terror...
to botch a conviction ain't always an error..
A "war" against crime has restrictions
that limit the means for convictions
because we prefer
to also deter
the gov'ment from power addictions.
In warfare against us by terror
to botch a conviction ain't error--
Instead the intention
of pris'ner detention

..
So what if the government's failure to apply the courtly Miranda procedures in
questioning John Walker following his battlefield-capture in Afghanistan were to
be deemed to constitutionally prohibit introduction of evidence to convict him
of the crimes charged? At the time of his interrogation, the prime
directive was to learn from him as much as possible to minimize risks to our
forces and our country in battling warfare against us by terror on the part of
those with whom he had allied himself. --Jim

describing their plans for a new Middle East:
For terror to perish
and culture to flourish,
to zero the number of Jews be decreased.
..
A June 11, 2002, poll*
of 1,179 Palestinians by the Palestinian Jerusalem Media and Communication Center
(JMCC) showed that "[51 percent] of Palestinians believe the aim of their 20-month-old uprising should be to
eliminate Israel and not just end Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,"
and "68 percent said they approved of suicide bombings against Israeli civilians, down slightly from 74 percent in December."

Will terror-belief
state become a police-state?..
Suppose gov'ment learns that a citizen
has plans with some terrorist denizens
with terrorist ardor
for nuking our harbors,
just what should we do with that citizen?
Assume we could prove it's a crime
to plan to commit such a crime.
To charge him requires
that lawyers be hired
demanding the proof of such crime.
Though ethical1
lawyers would say
the client should show us the way
to capture and stop
his cohorts and plots,
he might choose proceeding pro se.
And if he would choose to invoke
his right to be silent to cloak
the plans for the nukes
by fellow recruits,
then millions would die in the nuclear smoke.
That's why old Abe Lincoln suspended
the rights of the "Rebs" apprehended--
He knew in a war
such rights are not for
a citizen helping the enemy.
But yet there's a danger that's great
for gov'ment to seek to abate
a dissident's views
through process askew
to label him "threat to the state."
So how can we tread on this line
to stop terror plotting in time
but also prevent
a chill on dissent
that soon would evolve over time?
Since speech is our strongest defense
from gov'ment attacks on dissent,
't'was right to resort
to telling a court
"Padilla we've sent to Defense."
While judges and lawyers decide
with whom is Padilla allied,
the chances are best
Defense can divest
Padilla of knowledge so people won't fry.
..
As a limited-government advocate, I fear the long-term potential abuse of
allowing government to designate a citizen as an "enemy [of the
state]" because I think the risks are real that government will seek to
exercise police-state control over society. On the other hand, if we treat
citizens who've chosen to be combatants in criminal warfare against the country
through utilization of weapons to kill large numbers of people or destroy vital
national-defense assets, I don't think we can afford to treat them as mere
criminals and allow them to dance us through the Bill of Rights while their
cohorts continue with their criminal-warfare missions. Perhaps the course
of action posing the least danger to human life and to human rights as well is
the course followed by Bush with respect to Josι Padilla-- i.e., to
transfer such person to the custody of the Department of Defense with
notification of such action being also furnished to a court. --Jim

.1.
When a lawyer has
information upon which he reasonably concludes that his client is involved in an
ongoing criminal conspiracy that poses a threat to human life, the lawyer has an
ethical and moral duty to advise his client to take steps to prevent such scheme
from coming to fruition. Under sufficiently exigent circumstances, such
lawyer has a moral and ethical duty to take such actions himself if his client
were to be unwilling to do so, attorney-client privilege notwithstanding.

to tell us who's not
connecting the dots
as soon as he's briefed by the folks who are stealthy.
The Homeland Department must not be a flop
improving intelligence bottom to top,
so experts prefer
for Shelby to serve
at Homeland as Hindsight Connector of Dots.
..
Inspired by my perception that Shelby was the source of news reports (in early
October, 2001) describing some of the contents of intelligence briefings for
legislators, in response to which Bush issued an order severely restricting such
briefings, which order he later rescinded when it appeared that his two-by-four
had gotten the mule's attention.

A lawyer says
chimps have a liturgy that proves they need "bodily liberty" ..
A lawyer cites animal liturgy
on human and animal synergy
to argue in legalese
that monkeys and honeybees
have rights to their "bodily
liberty."
You wonder, "How could he succumb
to thinking such case can be won?"
He says it's a cinch
to prove that a chimp
is smart as his four-year-old son.
The lawyer is thus guaranteeing
that people will soon be agreeing
to end recognition
of old superstitions
that lawyers are sentient beings
.
..
According to a recent Washington Post article,* an animal-rights lawyer,
Steven Wise, asserts that a number of animals are entitled to
"rights of bodily integrity and bodily liberty. "
The reporter quotes the lawyer as stating, "I don't see a difference between a
chimpanzee and my 4 1/2-year-old son." The reporter further
states: "Rather than argue for blanket coverage, he began to search for the species that have "practical
autonomy.' .... [A] longtime animal rights lawyer from Needham, Mass.,
[Wise] makes similar cases for eight other species who meet the standards of consciousness, some sense of self-awareness and ability to act intentionally: gorillas, orangutans,
bonobos, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, African gray parrots, African elephants, dogs and honeybees."

Will Dubya retreat
from Greenhouse Beliefs?..
Though Bush tried to imply a retreat
from joining the Greenhouse Beliefs,
he didn't rescind
the liturgy sent
to Priests of the Greenhouse Beliefs.
"Kyoto," he says, "[we won't enter],"
but now they can brand him a "sinner"
rejecting the sacrament
"required" by his testament
as "proof" he's a vile non-repenter.
Rejecting Kyoto is right,
so that's not the cause of his plight--
It's his not rescinding
"releases" pretending
that junk-eco-science is "right."
..
Analysis of polar ice-core samples reveals the general climatic status of Earth
during the last 400,000 years. That analysis demonstrates that throughout
almost the entirety of such time-span, dramatic increases and decreases
in average global temperature often occurred within mere decades.
These observations alone (apart
from numerous other equally compelling observations) demonstrate the highly
unscientific nature of efforts by the Priests of the Greenhouse Beliefs to
portray as a scientific "conclusion" their unprovable hypothesis that
any current warming trend lasting more than several decades is the product of
manmade emissions of "greenhouse" gases rather than the same
not-yet-fully-understood forces of nature that caused far greater fluctuations
in global climate throughout the virtual entirety of the last 400,000 years
(never mind the 4 billions years before that). --Jim

Who's on first
? Who's on first ! Who's sown foist ? WHO's sown
foist !.
To Abbott, Costello inquired "Who's on
first?"
so Abbot, with candor, replied, "Who's on
first."
But Lou kept repeating
with Bud not retreating
from candidly telling him "Who" was
on first.
When thin, heavy smokers complained "WHO's
sown foist1"
the heavy non-smokers perceived "WHO's
sown
foist"
as words Bud had spoken
to Lou in Hoboken
so fans in New Jersey could know "Who's on
foist."
But heavy non-smokers who thought
"WHO's sown foist"
was how fans in Jersey would ask,
"Who's on foist,"
will soon be attacked
for dining on fat--
then non-smoking fatties will cry, "WHO's
sown foist !"
..
Inspired by Alan Caruba's June 5, 2002, column*
about ongoing plans by WHO (the UN's World Health Organization) to promote
governmental regulations and/or taxation to curb obesity in a way similar to
that promoted by WHO and employed by the United States and other governments to
curb smoking. Way back in 2000, when John McCain was championing his war
against "Big" Tobacco (while luxuriating in the lap of Big Beer), I
predicted**
that the nanny-government health fanatics would soon demand that consumers of,
and businesses marketing, mayonnaise, butter, red meat, fast-food, etc. be
subjected to the same Gestapo-type regulations as were then being applied to
smokers and "Big Tobacco." Each time I hear an Archer-Daniels
Midland commercial stating that "soy" can produce more "protein
per acre" than cattle-farming, I suspect ADM must surely be covertly
funding much of the VeggieNazis' fanaticism. I use the term "VeggieNazis"
to identify fanatical groups that advocate, support and/or employ various forms
of pantheopian terrorism such as the "Earth
Liberation Front," the "Animal
Liberation Front," "PeTA"
and useful idiots in the media such as Mary
Sojourner, whose tax-payer-supported idiocy we satirized on June 21, 2001 at

someone has perpetrated a fraud.

Contractual
bliss... for Motor-Mouth Chris..
M-S-N-B-C
has revealed
that Matthews has signed a new deal
so Hardball's the venue
where Chris can continue
to feature his motor-mouth spiel.
We know Chris has sometimes been willing
to learn that he's wrong and admit-it,
but lately it seems
his thinking machine
is broke and he simply can't fix-it.
The way he plays Hardball displays
a fav'rite technique that he craves:
To pigeon-hole views
of guests he'll abuse
with status-quo-ante clichιs.
..
Inspired by a news report that MSNBC and Chris Matthews have signed a contract
for Chris to continue on the network through 2009. I like Chris Matthews
but lately he seems blindly obsessed with wielding hackneyed clichιs rather than
engaging in serious analysis. Clichιs are fine for satire, but not so
useful from one from whom we had become accustomed to expect un-clichιd
analysis. --Jim

We ask "Will
George Walker be... a Greenhouse 'Gore Wannabe'?"..
When E-P-A published a warning
that Bush now believes Global Warming,
supporters of Dubya
confused him with Bubba,
who often reversed without warning.
It seemed Bush was striving for harmony
with Green Pantheopian's*
karma-needs
*[panth-ee-oh-pee-uns]
implying George Dubya's
initials, "Gee Dubya,"
hereafter would stand-for "Gore
Wannabe." .
But yesterday, Dubya perceived
that bureaucrats tried to deceive
the Greenies with hope
he'd stop saying "Nope"
to Priests
of the Greenhouse Beliefs.
But Dubya's new Clintonesque phrase
is not cause for shouting "Olιs"
until he's abated
what bureaucrats stated--
He simply can't have it both ways .
..
Inspired by the glimmer of hope offered by a June 5, 2002, news report**
indicating Bush tried to "distance" himself from the June 3, 2002, EPA
report stating his administration now accepts the "Global Warming"
theory.--Jim

Our Hindsight Department has reached an accord

Your U-turning,
Dubya, requires me to snub-ya...
Now Dubya with Greenpeace wants harmony.
If this weren't so sad, 't'would be comedy.
His placing reliance
on junk eco-science
makes Gee-Dubya stand-for "Gore Wannabe."
..
It seems Bush has made a bargain with the devil. In light of the
intrinsically flimsy nature of the "science" alleged to support the
claim that human activity is warming the Earth's climate, I hope that
Bush's sudden U-turn supporting the "global warming" theory is
fulfillment of a behind-the-scenes promise to the European pantheopians*
as the price for them to either support or decline to oppose the US when it
initiates actions to enable Iraqis to overthrow Saddam Hussein. If that
were the reason, I guess I could hold my nose and accept it, but I have this
nagging fear that he's been duped by politicized science. See .http://polisat.com/rhymes/r_pantheopians.htm.

How Sum of All
Fears can Fumble All Seers..
Before the fanatics made missiles from planes,
the Sum of All Fears had been basically changed
portraying the terror
as right-winger fervor
instead of jihadists that Clancy portrayed.
Of course, we all know why the changes
were made
'cause Hollywood views all "the right" as McVeys,
whose bombing killed more
than "jihads" before,
so that's why from scripting by Clancy they strayed.
So what is the mindset their changes convey?
"[We've much more to fear from the Timmy
McVeys,
'cause Muslim fanatics
would stop terror-tactics
if Israel's "right" would just give them their
way]."
Yet those with that mindset are quick to take
shots
at those who had failed to connect the right dots
to picture and stop
the Nine-One-One plot
concealed in a pattern of thousands of dots.
But those with that mindset are joined
in their yelping
by some from the right such as Senator Shelby,
whose favorite tool
is talk out of school
describing the facts into which he is delving.
To fix our defense against plots from
the inside
by sleepers desiring to strike from our blindside,
I've stolen from critics
a plan that will fix it:
We simply create a Department of Hindsight.

Beware the
portfolio entitled "I told you so.".
It's normal to hope one's portfolio
can justify saying "I told you so"
to cite one's exacto
and claim ipso facto
that others should now say they "oughtta
known."
And likewise, it's normal to elevate
the ones who correctly prognosticate,
but likewise there's danger
they're dogs in the manger
imbued with an urge to pontificate.
An ounce of prevention, we're sure,
is worth sixteen ounces of cure,
but zealotry missions
for perfect prevention
are burdens outweighing the cure.
Though goals of the terrorist fiefdoms
require our best skills to defeat 'em,
demanding perfection
in terror protection
advances their warfare on freedom.
If ways could be somehow devised
so no one from terror would die,
the steps to assure
for terror a cure
would mean that our freedom would die.
Before you conclude I'm defeatist
or worse think my views are elitist
opposing perfection
in terror protection,
stay tuned for the rest of my thesis.
..
For virtually every disaster, one can always find a number of people who
predicted it but whose predictions went unheeded. If Al Qaeda were to have
used a bomb-laden boat to wreak havoc in a harbor, a truck-bomb to attack a
nuclear site, Stingers to shoot-down airliners, Cyanide to contaminate a subway,
etc, we would have discovered afterward that dozens of documents within the
bowels of the FBI and/or the CIA contained predictions and/or hunches that such
event would occur. Without any intention of diminishing the prescience of
Rowely's hunch about Moussaoui, I think it's generally unwise to attach too much
significance to such prescience because, if nothing else, doing so may make us
less likely to recognize the significance of other clues in the future.
Furthermore, Rumsfeld is right in asserting it's unrealistic for us to expect to
be able to successfully play "defense" against terrorism and that the
only effective "defense" is one hell of an offense worldwide. With
respect to "the rest of my theses," I plan to elaborate within the
next few days, so stay tuned--Jim
