For Islam, my photo-ID leaves only my eyes to be seen..

For Islam, my photo-I.D.
leaves only my eyes to be seen
so men can't behold
my face as a whole
and think the wrong thoughts about me.

So those who demand I remove
my veil so my photo will prove
that no one but me
can use this I.D.
are bigoted, prejudiced rubes.

And so to respect my beliefs
the license for driving by me
should merely include
some alternate clues
to prove that the user is me.

So what if such alternate clues
require more resources be used
to fully reveal
the person concealed
when dots are connected and viewed?

The clues would be ample indeed
to know it is I they perceive--
It's easy to know
what hindsight would show--
Be patient and soon you will see.
.
 ·
Inspired by reports of the appeal of the Islamic lady in Florida from a decision rejecting her claim that the guarantee of religious freedom prohibits the state from refusing to issue a driver's license to her unless she were to have a photo of her full face on her driver's license rather than a photo of her wearing a hood revealing only her eyes.  (This is a modified reprise of my commentary nearly a year ago when this case first began.)  --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.

Says Bubba, "Amend terms" for Presidents' end-terms..

Reporters said Bill said:  "Amend terms
imposing a limit to end terms
for POTUS at two
to let him pursue
a third, if not more, as his end term.

But errors quite often are chronic
in stories on Bill's histrionics
by writers who lack
for Clintonesque flak
the skill to interpret ClinPhonics.*
·
ClinPhonics are Freudian spin-terms
revealing his wish to amend terms
to let him pursue
a lot more than two--
i.e., three or more as his interns.
 ·
Inspired by a May 28, 2003, news report of a speech by Bill Clinton in which he said the country should amend the 22nd Amendment to permit a president to serve more than two terms.

The BBC views are as wrinkled as those of Iraq's Rip Van Winkle..

Reports about history's wrinkles
are sometimes unwittingly sprinkled
with facts that suggest
the viewpoints possessed
by those who report hist'ry's wrinkles.

And one of such stories* is sprinkled
in news about post-Saddam wrinkles:
In Baghdad, Amir
from twenty long years
emerged as Iraq's Rip Van Winkle.

Defeat of Saddam Hussein's sentries
had spawned his amazing reentry
from hiding as one
condemned by Saddam
in Year Eighty-Three of last cent'ry.

For years in his hidden compartment
his sole source of news was to hearken
to BBC News
to formulate views
on when t'would be safe for embarkin'.

Perhaps if he'd listened to news
from others than BBC Views,
he'd sooner have learned
Saddam's overturned
and sooner been throwing his shoes.

It's rumored that soon BBC
will name him as World Bureau Chief
since views in his brain
like theirs haven't changed
since last cent'ry's year, Eighty-Three.

An insight this story has sprinkled
is BBC views are as wrinkled
by lack of refinement
from long-term confinement
as those of Iraq's Rip Van Winkle.
 ·
Inspired by my perception that the BBC world view exemplified by its news coverage about Bush 43 generally and about Iraq before, and since, commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom in particular, is the same world view exemplified by the BBC and European elites in the early and mid-1980's in mocking Reagan's unorthodox candor in calling the Soviet Union an "evil empire" destined for the "ash heap of history" as well as the elegantly brilliant simplicity of his strategy for arms-reduction (rather than limits on increases) by proving to the Soviets they could not out-build us militarily without falling increasingly further behind us in broad-scale modernity its population and Eastern Europeans were on the verge of demanding.  (Please forgive the long sentence.)
*·See the BBC news report on May 26, 2003, about an Iraqi, Jawad Amir, who hid for 21 years in a hidden compartment in his parents' house to avoid being executed by Hussein's regime for expressing support for a political opponent of Hussein. --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.·

If "imams" of terror bazaars
saw Earth from the vantage of Mars.
.

If "imams" of terror bazaars
saw Earth from the vantage of Mars,
perhaps they could see
their hatreds to be
affronts to the Author of Stars.

For "imams" of terror bazaars
to learn from such vantage afar,
we ought to amend
our weapons to send
their molecules closer to Mars.

For critics, a CBS sequel's a must on "Hitler" as "Back To The Future or Bust.".

A drama on Hitler that CBS showed
began quoting Burke on how evil is sowed:       ·
Said Burke, "Evil wins
whenever good men
do nothing while evil continues to grow." *·

To sequel this lesson from history's cusp
we'd title it Back to the Future, or Bust:
A time-travel lanyard
with Susan Sarandon
to ask, "What by Hitler was done against us?"    ·

··
Although I only watched part of the CBS drama on Hitler, it predictably (and properly) began with the famous statement of Edmund Burke that "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good me to do nothing," but while watching it, I couldn't help hearing the battle-cry of Not In Our Name, so eloquently conveyed by Susan Sarandon's morally incisive question, "What has [Saddam Hussein] ever done to us?"  ·

The fate of the writer named Blair?  A tenured professorship chair!.

Since Jayson has proved as a clarion
for telling the truth, he's contrarian,
on leaving the Times,
he's now first in line
to serve as the Clinton Liebrarian.

That Raines made him First Black in Residence
them fired him as Foist Black in Residence
gives tenure to Blair
for Little Rock's Chair
for Clinton, the Foist Black as President.

Since Ruth was of "swat" called "The Sultan,"
it's argued that Jayson's the Sultan
of Lying, but yet
the title that's best
instead is "Clintonian Vulcan."

The reasons such title is proper
for Jayson for writing such whoppers
are lies interwoven
as proof that his slogan
like Clinton's is "Lie Long & Prosper."

Before reading today's update, go here to read an excerpt from the BBC "news" report, which is the subject (and object) of today's commentary.

The new BBC peroration renews Baghdad Bob Cultivation..

Reports that described the maraud
that saved Private Lynch inspired awe,
but yet BBC
prefers to believe
Iraqis who claim they were "flawed."

But who are the sources believed
enough to convince BBC
that Lynch didn't need
a raid to be freed
'cause doctors attended her needs?

The sources allege they attended
her medical needs and attempted
by ambulance truck
through desert and muck
to take her to us to be mended.

Alleging they failed 'cause their truck
by bullets from our side was struck
and thus being spurned,
they claim they returned
to safety through desert and muck.

They claim they continued good care
for Lynch at the hospital where
civilians alone
remained in the zone
surrounding the hospital there.

That soldiers were not in the zone
they claim was by rescuers known
in breaking their doors
to enter the floors
comprising the medical zones.

Again you ask, "Who was believed
enough to convince BBC
that Lynch didn't need
the raid to be freed
'cause doctors attended her needs?

Their sources, of course, are Iraqis
who may have a motive for flaking
instead of admitting
to being complicit
in torture applied by the Baathists.

And who are the ones to contest
the versions those doctors profess?
For starters, a lawyer
asserted he saw her
by captors be slapped and oppressed.

And further our own special forces
have said they were shot-at by forces
approaching the place
where Lynch was in straits
and also en route to American forces.

And further, quite often we'd found,
their forces used hospital grounds
as places to hold
command and control
and weapons concealed on the grounds.

Remember how often we'd hear
the way many doctors endeared
themselves to Saddam
was going along
with orders for cutting-off ears?

The way BBC did its job
in judging which version is fog
reveals BBC
reporters to be
still prone to believe Baghdad Bob.

To view the animation, click the image below:

··
Until reading this BBC "news" report, I would have thought that only the French (well, also the Guardian, the Independent and the Mirror) would be capable of passing off such propaganda (probably from former Baathists) as a "news" report.  It's enough to make one wonder whether the reporter's name ("
John Kampfner") is merely the latest pseudonym for Peter Arnett.  Only the most gullible reporter could have believed the forces rescuing Lynch were "shooting blanks."  One wonders how a reporter could have believed these doctors' claims of knowledge that before the raid, the Americans "knew" all the Iraqi irregular forces had "left two days earlier."  Is this reporter to naive to understand the obvious motive these doctors have to deny complicity in any mistreatment of Lynch?  Is the reporter unaware of pervasive stories of how many doctors in Iraq performed mutilations (such as removing ears of Hussein's political opponents) at the behest of Saddam's Baathists?  Under what rock has this reporter been living?  This reporter would not only buy the Brooklyn Bridge, he'd buy it repeatedly.  --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.·

Conclusions by Graham from car-bombing datum..

The "war in Iraq," contends Graham
"diverted" our eyes from al Qaeda*
by resource diversion
allowing "resurgence"
through car-bombs in Saudi Arabia.

The thesis of Graham's attack?
That absent a war in Iraq,
Arabian cops
would surely have stopped
al Qaeda from launching attacks.

Implicit in Graham's contention
is faith that the Saudi's intentions
to stop such attacks
were rendered more slack
'cause we overthrew Saddam's minions.

Instead of supporting his claim
that war in Iraq is to blame,
the bombing location--
an Arabic nation--
makes laxness by Saudis to blame.

Instead of revealing emergence
of global al Qaeda resurgence,
the place of attack--
Arabian tracts--
shows local, not global, resurgence.

Does that mean it's safe to assume
from further attacks we're immune?
Of course it does not--
it merely does not
mean globalized reach has resumed.

So what should we make of his claim
that war in Iraq is to blame?
Ambition to score
for 2004
through games of political blame.
··
Inspired by news reports of Senator Bob Graham's contention that the recent bombing in Saudi Arabia demonstrates that our war on Iraq diverted our resources for waging war against terror and that such diversion enabled al Qaeda "reemerge" stronger than it was a year ago.  The fact that al Qaeda mounted a successful attack in its own back yard in a country full of sympathizers is an utterly insufficient basis for concluding that the mounting of such attack demonstrates al Qaeda has reacquired the global reach we dramatically reduced in the wake of September 11, 2001. ·

Will Leahy disdain McAuliffe's refrain?..

McAuliffe's supporting the clan*
that's clucking on cue to demand
that Bush should refuse
for ads to include
his use of a tailhook to land.

We wonder if Senator Leahy
will "ditto" what Terry is saying
or simply abstain
or join the refrain
to echo what Terry is saying.

Will Leahy disparage the clucking
as forms of political mucking,
or will he contend
he's one who has been
supporting the guard against mucking?

Inspired by curiosity over what, if anything, Patrick Leahy will say about Terry McAuliffe's joining the Cued Clucks Clan's condemnation of Bush by demanding that Bush take steps to prevent any political campaign on his behalf from using pictures of his tailhook landing on the Lincoln.  Will Leahy characterize the clamor by McAuliffe and the Cued Clucks Clan as political mucking or will he contend he's a politician who's proudly supported the guard against mucking?

they'd surely be forced to divest
because New York Mimes,
already defines
NBC, ABC, CBS.

Will "Dudley" McConnell defeat the Priests of Political Speech?.

The Priests of Political Speech
demanded that Ashcroft beseech
the court to delay
its ruling to slay
McCain-Feingold limits on speech.

So Ashcroft filed suit for relief
contending that "chaos" would be
the consequence of
the order to scrub
McCain-Feingold limits on speech.

To Priests of Political Speech,
chaotic political speech
is dangerous powder,
however, our Founders
defined it as Freedom of Speech.

Though "Dudley" McConnell did act
in time to pull "Nell" off the track,*
will Snidely McCain
and Feingold again
tie "Nellie" back onto the track?.

Inspired by a May 10, 2003, Washington Times report that John Ashcroft is having the Justice Department intervene in McConnell v. FEC to ask the court to delay implementation of its decision invalidating major components of the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance "Reform" in order to prevent "chaos" in political campaigns.  I always thought protecting chaotic political speech was a main purpose of the First Amendment.

The firing of pop-guns at Dubya as Top-Gun..

The co-pilot flying of Dubya to land
on Abraham Lincoln to honor all hands
    from sailors won cheers
    in contrast to jeers
and pecking and clucking on cue by the clan.

Inspired by the cases of vapors exhibited by Robert Byrd and Henry Waxman over Bush having co-piloted the Viking jet onto the Abraham Lincoln to honor the crew and leave an indelibly positive impression in the minds of voters.  What a contrast to Clinton's strutting around carriers in a "flight jacket" appearing like a fish out of water.  Bush's arrival as co-pilot conveyed a natural rather than contradictory image.  Anyone doubting that virtually every member of the Abraham Lincoln's crew genuinely appreciated the manner and purpose of his visit has probably never served in the military and certainly doesn't understand the thinking or philosophy of people who volunteer for service obligating them to go in harm's way on the President's orders. --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.

When bullhorns of fame are used to defame..

Today, Russell Simmons* respectfully claimed
it's wrong to show anger at people of fame
regardless of whether
opinions they tether
are bigoted, hateful or simply inane.

Respectfully, Russell, I must disagree
with how you interpret the "land of the free."
The freedom to speak
so others are tweaked
our Founders designed as a double-way street.

That famous dissenters naively insist
entitled they are to offend without risks
of danger so tame
as waning of fame
shows nothing's the most they believe they should risk.

When patrons who funded a bullhorn of fame
find values they hold being loudly defamed,
they're right to abstain
from suff'ring the pain
of funding the bullhorn by which they're defamed.

But those who dissent with respect and abstain
from self-righteous statements designed to defame
can safely assume
their fame won't be pruned
by patrons opposed to the views they explained.
··
·
*·This morning on Fox News, Russell Simmons respectfully but speciously characterized it as unfair or un-American for a "fan" to cease patronizing the work of a celebrity for merely "expressing dissenting views."  Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock knows that the only celebrities encountering, or likely to encounter, such "retaliation" are those whose dissent comprised self-righteous posturing and narcissistic self-indulgence in smugly mocking and defaming leaders and values respected by such fans.  For example, many weeks ago, I heard Richard Dreyfus explain his strong opposition to imminent use of force against Iraq without attempting to demagogically impugn the motives and/or character of those favoring such action.  If he's expressed himself in a manner that was in any way comparable to that of most of the celebrities now whining about their fear of being "blacklisted" or "shunned" by their former "fans," I haven't heard it.  Indeed, if Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, et al were to have expressed their dissenting views respectfully rather than in such an offensively unctuous and smugly narcissistic, self-righteous and self-congratulatory manner demagogically defaming the motives of those whose views they oppose, they might have actually changed, rather than alienating, a few more minds.  For examples of such celebrity claptrap, go here.  --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.·

A new Book of Virtues for Vegas not church-pews..

From Bennett, who authored the Book
of Virtues
that others forsook:
A new Book of Virtues
to help, not besmirch, you--
a sequel whose title is Virtues of Book.

Reporters asked "Ain't you ashamed, man,
for gambling your Virtues in games, man?"
But Bennett rejoined,
"Twas virtue employed:
the knowledge of math as in Rainman."

Though first he rejected advice
from critics for ending this vice,
he soon had to croon
the opposite tune
on orders received from his wife.·

The Campaign "Reform" train is throttled
by braking applied by McConnell.

The ruling that campaign "reform"
offends constitutional norms
though right has denied
my right to defy
such wrong-headed, stupid "reforms."

No thanks to McCain or to Feingold
for authoring laws to deny gold
to fund speech opposing
the candidates blowing
political air from behind-holes.

Our thanks go instead to McConnell
for putting the brakes on the throttle
for drive-through campaigns
with choices restrained
like menus from Ronald McDonald.

May Day Retrospective.

The violence covertly inspired by the Baathists
and violence inspired by religious fanatics
    is cited as proof
    Iraqis reprove
a system abjuring fanatics and Baathists.

If findings like that in the wake of the war
are proof that it's freedom Iraqis abhor,
    then violent melees
    in Europe on May Day
are proof that it's freedom the Euros abhor.

For Dubya "a wing and a prayer" if carrier landing by Dubya is dared.

En route to the Lincoln on this Day of Prayer,
if nearing the carrier Bush were to dare
to pilot while landing,
his crew is demanding
that Bush must recite the traditional prayer.

For carrier landings, the prayer offered up,
according to Wolfe in his book, The Right Stuff,
we must euphemize
for Bush as he flies:
"Please help me land safely without fouling up."

Inspired by reports that Bush plans to be in the co-pilot seat when he lands on the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln in an S3B Viking this evening, which is a National Day of Prayer, to give an address to the nation from aboard the carrier while it's returning from duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Although Ari Fleischer said this morning that Bush would not fly the plane onto the deck of the carrier, Bush later told reporters that everyone should "watch out" as his plane approaches.  --Jim Wrenn, Editor@PoliSat.Com.
