Secretary Donald Rumsfeld explains
resignation: We know there are things that we know and know things we know we don't know but know that we've found the unknown abounds in things we don't know we don't

and know things we know we don't know
but know that we've found
the unknown abounds
in things we don't know we don't know.
(To
critics who claimed not to know
his
meaning, on them I bestow
the title of
"Dummies,"
who unlike the Rummy,
don't know they know less than they "know.")
When Rumsfeld and Dubya detected the risk that there might be
elected a Democrat House, the
Rummy espoused contingency plans for ejecting. Though
Rummy as pilot was sure his piloting skills could ensure his
tail-hook would catch so vict'ry we'd snatch, he
feared finding voters unsure. [Video on right.]
He harkened to insights profound, which
he, years ago, had pronounced on what can be known of
"knowns" and "unknowns." I paraphrase words
he did spout: · We know there are things that we
know and know things we know we don't know but know that we've found the unknown abounds in
things we don't know we don't know. (To critics who claimed not to know his
meaning, on them I bestow the title of "Dummies," who
unlike the Rummy, don't know they know less than they "know.")
He
knows that for vict'ry ensured requires more than planning
ensured to win, it requires a
plan to inspire the voters to know it's assured.
A "known" that he knows to be true imbued
in Democracy's hue: Twixt facts and perceptions, the
voters' perceptions control despite facts-misconceptions.
So, Rummy, before the election, told
Bush if the vote shows rejection of real-world conceptions,
such gross misperceptions may thereby
require my ejection. The reason, knows Rummy, is this:
· When gross "misperceptioning" twists the
truth, what's required so truth's not "retired,"
is "change" for reversing such twists. When
minds of the voters have closed-- i.e., misperceptions
they "know"-- for truth to be spoken requires
a new spokesman so truth they again come to "know."
And one of the worst of such twists-- The
claim that more danger exists because Dubya toppled Saddam--
is just twaddle. Instead, work on nukes would exist.
Both Rumsfeld and Bush understood Saddam
left in place promptly would his nuke-program fix soon
after Hans Blix reported "Saddam as been good."
Though Bush/Rummy critics have cried: "No
WMD's-- Dubya lied," if Bush left Hussein in
place they'd have blamed the Dubya for nukes he devised.
Though Bush/Rummy critics have claimed that
Bush could've/should've "contained" Saddam, there's no
doubt by now he could tout a
nuke, and then Dubya they'd blame.
The Bush/Rummy critics who say "No
nuke could Saddam have today," missed "Back
to the Future's"* historical
sutures: "Rewind
[and] Rewrite [and] Replay."**
Ignoring such lessons they say: "The
chaos Iraq is today is worse than what would've
occurred if Bush would've from
toppling Saddam stayed away."
And what do they thus deem as trivial?
That Moammar Khadafi of Libya, who almost
had Bombs, on seeing Saddam pulled
out of his hole "neutered" Libya. So thus they
imply 'twould be better if Bush left Saddam merely fettered
with "sanctions" and hoped to
"nukes" he'd say "Nope," like hoping Il Jung
would be "fettered."
To paraphrase Rummy in 2002: Too
often we thought that we "knew"a state would
have nukesmuch later than "soon,"'til
tests proved we should've thought "soon."· No
doubt even Rummy would say he big mistakes on the way to
making Iraq a source to help stop the
spread of the terrorists' ways.
And likewise, the Gen'ral named Ike commanding
our war-fighting might against Nazis made mistakes
that were grave for which thousands paid with their life.
Yet hist'ry correctly perceives his
strategy rightly conceived, and lucky for him the
media then did not claim "defeat we have reached."
So, what will the legacy be for
Rummy's departing DeeCee? Our history shows the
future will know he authored al Qaeda's defeat. His
critics may think his successors in war-against-terror endeavors,
not Rummy, will be as authors
perceived for winning such warfare endeavors.
However, perspectives of hist'ry bring
clarity rather than myst'ry with proper perspective eclipsing
invectives by short-term predictors of "hist'ry."
Though Bush 41 was installed when
Gorbachev didn't forestall collapse of the Wall, on
Reagan did fall\ the credit for "tear down that Wall."
And likewise, when liberty's rights have
vanquished the terrorist blight, the Rummy will be, with
Dubya, perceived as authors of ending the blight. So,
here's a respectful "Farewell," to Rumsfeld for serving
us well, for danger he braved that
colleagues be saved when flames on the Pentagon fell.
