Internet's
WayBack Machine Archives shed light on controversy involving Judith Miller and Matthew Cooper
regarding leak of alleged covert CIA agent status of Joe Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, to Robert
Novak.
While contempt proceedings against New
York Times reporter Judith Miller and Time
Magazine reporter Matthew Cooper have brought back to center stage the
controversy over the alleged "outing" of "Valerie Plame" by Robert Novak on July
14, 2003, the world-wide-web's
Archives, aptly named the "WayBack Machine," reveal
that at least six months before Robert Novak's July 14, 2003, column which Joe Wilson (Joseph C.
Wilson, IV) claimed had "outed" the identify of his wife, Valerie Plame, as a "covert
agent" for the CIA, the February
8, 2003 version of Wilson's
own website touting his foreign relations expertise as a former U.S. Ambassador
as well as a former advisor on the National Security Council staff during the Clinton Administration
had identified his wife as "the former Valerie Plame" and thereby compromised
any alleged continuation of her status as a "covert" agent of the CIA. Thus, unless
her "covert" role had been to pose as a traitorous wife of a formerly high-ranking U.S.
official internationally known (and self-touted) as a former U.S. Ambassador and former aide for the
U.S. National Security Council, Wilson's own website's identification of his wife as "the
former Valerie Plame" would have compromised her covert status in the minds of all but the most
stupid foreign-intelligence agents since only the most stupid ones would never have followed the
simple expedient to conducting an internet search for the name "Valerie Plame" to
determine whether such person might be other than who she would have purported to be in dealing with
them (in her "covert" capacity purporting not to be serving, or loyal to, American
interests, officials or agencies). It's not as though her name were "Sally Smith" or
"Jane Doe."
If the circumstances were different such that the complaining person were to have been a pro-Bush
former Ambassador and National Security Council aide and Robert Novak were to have been Paul Krugman,
the dominant media's attention on the controversy would have focused on the fact the complaining
former-ambassador's/former-NSC-aide's website's having previously identified his wife by name would
have already hopelessly compromised any "covert" status she may have had long before a
Paul Krugman article could have done so. The dominant media would be portraying such former
official's complaint as nothing more than partisan sniping.
With respect to the actual circumstances, it's likely that Novak's July 14, 2003, description of
Valerie Plame as a "CIA opeative" was only news outside the intelligence communities
(including those of our adversaries) and the Georgetown cocktail circuit because only the
ill-informed in those communities and social circles were unaware that she had formerly
served as a "covert" agent and was currently serving only as an "analyst" on
issues involving weapons of mass destruction. This has been obvious from the get-go as was
explained in PoliSat.Com's
September 30, 2003, installment. What a tempest in a teapot.

medieval, totalitarian, perverted version of Islam being peddled by al Qaeda et al.
