Political slogans abound

for "change" without statements of grounds

set forth to explain

the type of the "change"

to show if it's sound or unsound.

The act of demanding a "change"

without stating grounds to explain

the "change" to unfold

in "tactics" or "goals,"

reveals not "design" but "disdain."

In hindsight, there's wisdom abounding,

but hindsight selectively founded

on good but not bad

effects it could have

is fraudulent, one-side accounting.

"If Bush hadn't toppled Hussein,

'twould be," says half-hindsight's refrain,

"much better, not worse."

What's true? The reverse:

For nukes, enough time he'd have gained.

Though full-hindsight wouldn't exchange

the chaos from toppling Hussein

for leaving Saddam

with nukes to be armed,

it can't prevent half-hindsight blame.

So half-hindsight's "change" won't be feared,

the words must be vague and unclear:

Avoiding "defeat"

and likewise "retreat"

with words like "advance to the rear."

And who would be fooled by such drama?

It surely will not be Usama,

or Persian Iran

or goons of Saddam.

The answer: the "stars" of such drama.

If the voting on November 7, 2006, produces what many current polls predict, authors of the half-hindsight self-delusion will begin attempting to force Bush onto the unreal stage of their drama. Since the polls (including exit polls) were so dramatically wrong in 2004, there's still hope that common-sense, full-bore hindsight will prevail.
