James Wrenn's, Clinton Liebrary Book falls into the category of heavy artillery. The heavy handed humor goes to the heart of the "Clinton Legacy", reminding us of what Clintonism really is all about.
Scandal, farce and inane policies were at the root of the Clinton Administration. Every day was like a soap-opera on the scale of "Days of Our Lives" or "The OJ Trial". Wrenn catches this feeling of sleazy tomfoolery and raises it to a transcendental level. He delivers hilarious poetry, in Limerick style, on the sex scandals and more. He makes a lot of Hillary and her role in Clinton's life, with such astounding devices as, "Dueling Memoirs of Bill and Hillary" and the "Post-Presidency Adventures of Bill and Hillary".
Even though Clinton has worked hard since the end of his Presidency to improve his reputation and lend positive meaning to his time in the White House, this book is a reminder of where Clinton's legacy really lies, in the gutter. The book is not for the faint of heart, but for those who like their humor broad and low. There are Clintanimations in the margins of the book that bring Bill, Hillary and Al to life, if only for a moment and in an unflattering light.
There is literally a laugh a page, with mini-courses on Clintonese, Dressing for Success (the Clinton way) and Hystery (Feminism). The "Ballad of Battles for Ballots" recounts the contested 2000 Presidential election. It is a blow by blow description of the fight, in verse. Even the dust jacket and reviews are funny.
But there is one way in which this book is not funny; the "Clinton Liebrary Book" purports to be the true Clinton Legacy. When Mr. Wrenn made this claim, he was not joking. A fun book for those with a Liberally Conservative sense of humor. *
