We pause today on Veterans Day to join in this refrain to those who risked their all for us so freedom we'd retain.·

November 11, 2007--

We pause today on Veterans Day to join in this refrain to those who risked their all for us so freedom we'd retain; For darkness they confronted in securing freedom's light, we owe them more than we can pay for risking treasured life, but gratitude will e'er endure in hearts and souls and minds of we who drink from freedom's cup the fruits of freedom's vine.   (More on Veterans Day herehere and here.)

Those are the lines in PoliSat.Com's "Veteran's Day Tribute & Thanks" video.  They're repeated below, line by line:

We pause today on Veterans Day to join in this refrain
to those who risked their all for us so freedom we'd retain;
For darkness they confronted in securing freedom's light,
we owe them more than we can pay for risking treasured life,
but gratitude will e'er endure in hearts and souls and minds of
we who drink from freedom's cup the fruits of freedom's vine.

Appended to that video is the chorus from another tribute titled, "Thanks in Our Name for Deeds in Our Name":    To you who defend us we proudly proclaim our pride in the deeds you have done in our name.  We thank you, we thank you for deeds in our name.  We thank you, we thank you for deeds in our name.  Those words are repeated below, line by line:

To you who defend us we proudly proclaim
our pride in the deeds you have done in our name.
We thank you, we thank you for deeds in our name.
We thank you, we thank you for deeds in our name.

Today is a time to remember that it's the willingness of past and present veterans to risk life itself that has preserved and is now preserving the liberty too many of us take for granted.  Their nobility and courage stand in such sharp contrast to those who, while living and working within the cocoon of freedom protected by veterans, expend vast resources denigrating to denigrate them.  What seems beyond such denigrators' intellectual and moral grasp is what the "everyman private" (symbolized by "Private Ryan") is shown to have understood:

So little they ask for so much that they give
so we may in freedom continue to live,
that more than just "thank you" to them we must give.
The "more" they would want is not "something" to give:
It's what's given best by our lives when we live
in ways to be worthy of all they did give.

The "everyman" Private named "Ryan" perceived
this insight returning to Normandy's beach
by posing a question whose asking does teach
the answer to what do we owe the deceased--
Asked Ryan, "Please tell me the life I did weave
has honored the gift that from them I received."

Those today who in contrast to the symbolic "Private Ryan" contemptuously denigrate our military deserve to be described by an adaptation of Winston Churchill's famous statementşı after British pilots overcame overwhelming odds to win what became known as the "Battle of Britain."   Here's the adaptation:  "Never in the history of human conflict has so much been owed [to so few by so many idiotic, hateful ingrates]."  It's so applicable to the Hollywood Left, MoveOn.Org, ANSWER, Code Pink, and their ilk.

All of us who find such denigration of our military to be despicable should to show the Hollywood Left that we hold them beneath contempt by refusing to spend our hard-earned dollars to pay for their hateful megaphones, such as the latest spate of hurt-American-in-order-to-hurt-Bush movies, of which "Lions for Lambs" is but one example.  They need to learn that although our troops are protecting their freedom to denigrate the very military protecting them in their Hollywood cocoon, those of us who respect and appreciate such protection will not allow one penny of our hard-earned money to fund the Hollywood Left's movies and entertainment which serve as gift-wrapped anti-American propaganda for those recruiting fanatics to try to kill our troops.

şı Churchill's statement was "Never in the history of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few."   In Churchill's time, there were extremely few in Britain who failed, along with Churchill and the "so many" to feel gratitude to, and to pay respect to, the "few" pilots whose courage and sacrifices saved the "many."
